PAPILLON'S STUDY ON INDECISION

OUR LATEST RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

BUSINESS PROBLEM: INDECISION

Indecision is experienced by leaders, their colleagues,
and managers alike.

Leaders were more inclined to delay taking a decision when faced with two viable options compared to a clear way of doing things. The difference between the proportion of delaying a decision with a clear way of doing things and the proportion of each of the rest of the scenarios is statistically significant (P<0,1). These delays can be more than 2 days.

INDECISION IS CO$TLY

According to leaders, the cost of indecision on four aspects of productivity cannot be denied.

65.8% of the leaders stated that there was a cost to their indecision. Although 7.2% speculated that the cost of their indecision may be $100,000 or more, only 2.7% knew the exact cost.

When faced with two viable options (right and right):

53.8% stated there was a cost to their indecision. Although, 8.5% speculated that the cost of their indecision may likely be $100,000 or more, only 6.6% knew the exact cost.

INDECISION HURTS

The mental weight of indecision is significant across all conditions of decision-making for self and others.

Over 60% of the leaders reported a personal impact due to moments of indecision. The impact of indecision across three indicators of personal well-being was reported when faced with either two viable options or a clear way of doing things. Interesting to note as well is the number of leaders who reported personal impact of their managers’ and colleagues’ indecision. The impact of indecision on leaders’ mental health can reduce their sense of engagement and commitment to the organization.
